Three Bishop Hartley freshmen recently received the Girl Scout Silver Award from Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland Council. Pailyn Groene, and Melanie Magin, members of Troop 1187 from St. Pius X, received Girl Scouting’s second highest honor for completing a sustainable “take action” project which required them to identify a need and take leadership of the project. Each invested a minimum of fifty hours in their project. They join fellow troop member and Hartley freshman Agnes Bryan who completed her project earlier this year.
Groene worked with a fellow St. Pius alum to clear and restore a running path in Pine Quarry Park in Reynoldsburg. Magin serves as a volunteer at Shepherd’s Corner in Blacklick and developed a pamphlet that teaches how to grow a vegetable container garden. Bryan’s project increased opportunities for children to share books and promoted literacy with the installation of bookshelves at Children’s Hospital Orthopedic Center and Pediatrics Association in Pickerington.
