5 Football Hawks Sign Letters of Intent

Bishop Hartley High School will hold a Signing Day ceremony on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 3:15 in the Cafeteria. Five Football Hawks from the class of 2018 will sign their letters of intent, make brief comments and take pictures with friends and families.

Ethan Amaya (Defensive Line 6’3 295) will attend Ohio Dominican University. Ethan is the son of Ed and Michelle Amaya and attended Holy Spirit Grade School and played middle school football for St. Matthew. Ethan, a three year letterman, was named 1st Team All Ohio on the Defensive Line as well as earning All District and All CCL honors. Ohio Dominican is coached by Kelly Cummings and is coming off of a 7-3 record in 2017.

Alexander Blackmon (Running Back/Linebacker 5’11 220) will attend Walsh University. Alexander is the son of Allen and Kelly Blackmon and attended Grace Christian Middle School. Alexander was named to All District, This Week Super 25 and All CCL teams in 2017 and was a three year lettermen for the Hawks. Alexander served as captain for Hartley as well. Alex’s cousin, Nick King ’13, was a great linebacker for Walsh, and currently former Hawk Cam’Ron Culver ’17 is a member of the Walsh football program.

Nick Cone (Defensive End 6’4 270) will attend Ashland University. Nick is the son of Mike and Gianna Cone and attended St Matthew the Apostle Grade School. Nick earned honors at the state, district and league levels. Nick was also named OHSFCA Academic All Ohio. Nick was a 3 year starter at running back and defensive line. Ashland is coached by Lee Owens and was 11-2 in 2017.

Patrick Gilliland (Offensive Tackle 6’5 315) has already signed his letter of intent with Ohio University and will be honored on February 7. Patrick is the son of Vince and Mary Gilliland and attended St Matthew the Apostle Grade School. Patrick was an All District player and will play in the prestigious OHSFCA North-South Football game in April. Patrick joins Keith Key ’15 on the Bobcat roster and Ohio is coached by the legendary Frank Solich.

James Reese III (Linebacker 5’10 215) will attend Wheeling Jesuit. James is the son of James Jr ’92 and Kenya Reese and attended St Matthias Grade School. James was named All District and All CCL in 2017 and was a three year letterman and captain of the Hawks. Wheeling Jesuit will launch its football program in 2018 and will be led by head coach Zac Bruney.

Hartley owns one of the most storied football traditions in Ohio. Along with four state championships, they have captured 9 regional titles. The 2017 Hartley Hawks were champions of the Central Catholic League, Academic All Ohio Team, made their 16th appearance in the OHSAA football playoffs (8 consecutive), were Division III Region 11 Runner ups and finished with an 11-2 record.
